Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Which school of thought (Fiqh) does this calculator follow?
This Islamic Inheritance Calculator is based on the principles of the Hanafi school of thought (Fiqh), which is followed by a majority of Sunni Muslims in the subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh).
Is this calculator 100% accurate for all situations?
This tool is designed for common inheritance scenarios involving spouses, children, and parents. Islamic inheritance law (Ilm-ul-Faraiz) is very complex. For complicated cases involving other relatives (siblings, grandparents, etc.) or special circumstances, it is highly recommended to consult a qualified Islamic scholar (Mufti).
What should be done before distributing the inheritance?
Before dividing the property, three things must be paid from the deceased’s estate in this order:
- Funeral expenses (Tajheez o Takfeen).
- All outstanding debts of the deceased (Qarz).
- The execution of their will (Wasiyyat), which can be up to one-third (1/3) of the remaining property.
The amount you enter in the calculator should be what’s left AFTER these three expenses.
