Understanding the Islamic (Hijri) Calendar

The Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar consisting of 12 lunar months in a year of 354 or 355 days. It is used to determine the proper days of Islamic holidays and rituals, such as the annual period of fasting (Ramadan) and the proper time for the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca).

Important Note on Adjustments: Because the Islamic calendar is purely lunar, dates can vary by 1 or 2 days depending on the physical sighting of the moon in your local region. We provide an adjustment option to perfectly align the converted date with your local crescent sighting.
